History of Lafayette, NJ
Lafayette was formed as a Township on April 14, 1845, from part of Frankford Township and Newton Township. The Township was named after the Marquis de Lafayette (1757–1834), the French general and statesman who served in the Continental Army (1777–1781) during the American Revolutionary War.
